The developer of the popular OS Linus Torvalds announced the release of a preliminary version of the Linux 6.0 kernel. There are no cardinal innovations in the update, however, it contains several changes regarding architecture, compatibility with fresh hardware and performance.
Most of the changes are related to the modernization of the GPU from AMD, networking and audio devices. The Linux 6.0-rc1 kernel also received architectural modifications to improve the quality of the functioning of file systems and the speed of the operating system.
There are no global changes in the kernel, according to the developer. For example, the expected additions for the Rust programming language have not yet appeared in the OS. They are expected to appear in future versions. Torvalds motivated the change in the version number of the system by unwillingness to get confused in numbers. Version numbering for him is an empty formality.
