Google plans to merge Duo and Meet

The main idea of the association is to combine the user experience from Duo with the useful functionality of Meet. A fresh application should be released under the name Meet. It is worth noting that Duo was initially positioned as a means of making quick and convenient video calls, while Meet was intended for business conferences in video format.

Duo functionality will remain in the future program. Among the main options will remain the ability to make calls to a phone number or email address, apply filters and effects, messaging and voice communication through the Assistant application. The correspondence log, contact details and messages are synchronized with the future service.

In turn, functions such as scheduling meetings, choosing a virtual background image when making video calls, text chat for conferences, and the option to send media content to all conference participants will be taken from Meet. Also in the updated software will be the activation of subtitles online, expanding the limit of meeting participants from 32 to 100 and integration with other proprietary services (Gmail, Calendar, Assistant).

The new unified service is due out before the end of this year.
