Structurally, the device consists of ten plates of 2.6 TB. The manufacturer was able to achieve impressive memory figures thanks to its own OptiNAND technology, which provides increased performance for the random large block write process. Together with proprietary firmware, the WD UltraSMR technology solution allows for encoding large blocks with an upgraded error correction method.

The above set of parameters makes it possible to increase the number of TPIs to obtain a HDD with increased capacity. The device was primarily developed for the enterprise sector, several of the vendor's clients are now testing it in the cloud technology industry.

The new 26TB HDD model will be available this summer. Also, Western Digital intends to release a more budget version of 22 TB. How much the acquisition of new products will cost is still unknown.
