The Steam Deck game console was seen by many as the ideal portable solution for gaming, but it also found its drawbacks. One of them is a very small autonomy in games. The author of The Pawx channel wanted to solve the problem, and this is what he did.

To increase the autonomy of the console, the blogger advises reducing the screen refresh rate to 40 Hz. So, with active vertical sync, the frame rate in games will also drop to similar values. As a result, the system will load less and stop trying to achieve improved performance.

The gamer notes that the set-top box is generally unable to provide stable 60 frames per second in resource-intensive AAA projects, but it constantly spends system resources on these attempts. Therefore, limiting the refresh rate of the display will have little effect on the smoothness of the gameplay, and at the same time, it will increase the autonomy of the console.

By default, Steam Deck does not support such settings, therefore, to carry out this manipulation, the user must install specialized software on the Windows OS console. By the way, Valve is not opposed to players acting in this way.

At the same time, Valve developers do not advise Steam Deck owners to disassemble the console themselves. Nevertheless, there have already been craftsmen who were able to connect a discrete video card to the device to achieve high resolution and increase fps.
