New technology will allow Samsung to increase battery capacity
Rumor has it that Samsung is working on a way to shrink the battery without sacrificing capacity. They could do the same with batteries in electric cars.

Approximately a year ago, Samsung's SDI division, which is responsible for the production of displays, batteries and accumulators, began producing 5th generation batteries with a "jelly roll" design. A feature of the technology is a denser packing of all battery components, due to which it was possible to achieve an increase in capacity with the same volume. Now the company intends to apply this technology to the batteries of mobile devices, equipping them with several similar “rolls”.

Several coiled batteries stacked will receive an increased capacity compared to a conventional rolled design. In standard batteries, space is left for a natural slight swelling, but in new samples there will be no extra space, since all elements (anode, cathode and separator) will be located in a ladder, which will prevent them from breaking. As a result, the battery capacity will increase by 10% or the thickness of the device will be reduced without loss of autonomy.

According to insider information, new batteries will be produced at the South Korean enterprise Cheonan. In addition, Samsung can re-equip one of the production lines for them at the Chinese plant in Tianjin.
