The FreeDOS operating system received a major update

The previous OS update is dated 2016. Since then, the developers have introduced a large number of changes to the OS. So, now the system has a FreeCOM command line. It also added support for FAT32 logical volumes for old PCs on the 8086 architecture. In addition, the system received upgraded functionality for interacting with floppy disks, network connections, and the ability to run fresh programs and games.

Among other innovations, it is worth noting the change in the installer to interact with MBR drives, the introduction of the regional settings function, the appearance of unzip and zip archivers. With all the innovations, the system requirements have not changed: Intel 80386 microprocessor and higher, at least 2 megabytes of RAM and 10 megabytes of storage space.

FreeDOS 1.3 has support for hard drives up to 2 terabytes, optical disk drives, manipulators (mouse) and image printing. Despite the widespread popularity of Windows, FreeDOS is used as pre-installed software on new PCs to reduce their cost, as well as in OS format for embedded systems and diagnostic mechanisms.
