Google has shared statistics on the use of multitasking mode in Chrome on Android 12L devices.

The Android 12L operating system (formerly known as 12.1) is designed for devices with large screens, including tablets, foldable smartphones, and Chromebooks. It is currently in beta testing. The main feature of the system is the implementation of an adapted user interface for large screens with customization of the placement of the main screen, lock screen, notifications and other elements.

Google developers have been experimenting with various features of the system for a long time to ensure the equivalence of the functionality of desktop versions of Chrome and versions for mobile devices with large displays. In particular, the capabilities of Android 12L were used to open multiple windows in the browser at the same time. In the course of work, it was checked how the user will be able to use multitasking mode in conditions of a limited amount of RAM. To support this use case, Chrome has been updated and the New Window shortcut has been made more visible to encourage the user to multitask to their advantage.

The results of the tests show that the number of applications of browser multitasking in Android 12L among users has increased by 18 times. Google hopes that these figures will convince app developers to create more features in their software that unlock the potential of Android 12L.
