Qualcomm officially unveils Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor

The novelty is designed using process technology 4 or based on the ARM v9 architecture. The processor received one Cortex-X2 CPU, three high-performance Cortex-A710 cores and four energy-efficient Cortex-A510 cores.

Compared to its predecessor, the processor received an increase in computing power by 20% and an increase in energy efficiency by 30%. In addition, Adreno's built-in graphics are up to twenty points more productive while reducing energy consumption by twenty-five. The chipset is also equipped with a Snapdragon X65 5G module.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 also supports Wi-Fi 6 and 6E, NFC technologies, Bluetooth 5.2, USB 3.1, Bluetooth LE Audio and satellite navigation systems including GPS and GLONASS.

The proprietary photo processing microprocessor (ISP) will enable devices based on the chipset to produce up to 240 12-megapixel photos and at the same time record 8K videos with HDR and shoot 64-megapixel photos. The new chipset has support for interaction with 200MP image sensors or triple 36MP cameras. To improve HDR performance, one photo can be combined from thirty images.

The AI algorithms for interacting with the camera have also been improved. The 7th Gen Hexagon auxiliary processor is four times faster and 1.7 times more energy efficient.

Smartphones based on the chipset will be able to support 4K screens with a refresh rate of 60 Hz, or QHD + displays with 144 Hz “hertz”. The processor also supports LPDDR5-3200 DRAM, ultrasonic fingerprint scanners, Quick Charge 5.

The first models of devices with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 on board should be presented before the end of December.
