The main thing about the tests of the new Intel Core i9-12900K processor
On November 4, the information embargo on the publication of reviews of tests of fresh Intel twelfth generation processors was lifted. Their announcement took place last week.

Intel chips of the Alder Lake-S line are distinguished by the use of a hybrid architecture: in a single processor there are performance (P-Cores) and energy-efficient (E-Cores) cores. Most of the reviews refer to the most productive solution in the series - Core i9-12900K. It has eight high-performance and energy-efficient cores, the total number of instruction threads reaches 24, since E-Cores do not support Hyper-Threading. In this device, the P-Cores are capable of reaching 5.2 GHz, while the E-Cores are limited to 3.9 GHz. The device marked K has a multiplier unlock, which makes it easier to overclock the processor.

The Core i9-12900K also has on board 30 megabytes of level 3 cache, 14 megabytes of level 2 cache, sixteen PCle 5.0 lines and four - PCle 4.0. It also has support for DDR5 memory, although DDR4 has not gone anywhere, so users are free to choose various options for "RAM". The images below show the results of the processor using different types of memory in several programs.

In benchmarks and highly multi-threaded applications, the chip largely outperforms the Ryzen 9 5900X and 5950X. Only in some cases AMD solutions have higher performance. The use of DDR5 memory gives a better result than DDR4, but the difference here is not big.

In games, the flagships of Intel and AMD show almost the same results with a minimal difference. Overall, the Core i9-12900K delivers an average 4% boost over the Ryzen 9 5900X. At the same time, you will have to pay for a solution from Intel 25% more.

Users also rated the power consumption of the processors, and Intel has a very poor performance here. With the similar performance of the Core i9-12900K and Ryzen 9 5950X, the power consumption of the first chip was 350W, and the second - only 221W. Do not forget that with increased power consumption, heat dissipation also increases, so a more powerful cooling system is required for the Intel flagship. In games, the power consumption of both processors leveled off.

The top chip from Intel costs $650, which allows it to be positioned as something between the Ryzen 9 5900X and 5950X, which are priced at $520 and $750, respectively.

Overall, Intel's new Alder Lake-S chip delivers impressive performance, signaling the company's return to leadership in the high-end processor segment. The only negative point is the high power consumption.
