Google closes Android Auto for smartphones
Google is shutting down the Android Auto application for smartphones running a test version of Android 12. Now the program will be able to function exclusively on the screens of car multimedia systems.

The utility was released by the company in 2014. This service provided access to music, navigation and other features directly from the display of the multimedia system without using a smartphone. In this case, the user had to have a gadget compatible with the screen.

For owners of vehicles that did not have Android Auto support, the developers created a special application for mobile devices with the prefix for phone screens. The program provided the same features as the main version, and eliminated the need to install a new multimedia system in the car.

Now it became known that Google will eliminate access to the utility on devices with the 12th version of Android. Many users confirm that the OS does not allow turning on Android Auto for phone screens, and then a notification appears on the screens that the application is only available for cars. Also, car enthusiasts are advised to try out the driving mode in Google Assistant.

Google warned of plans to close the program two years ago. At the moment, on devices with OS Android 11 or earlier, the application still works, but in the near future, it will probably cease to be available there as well.
