Amazon implements smart video camera system to monitor delivery service drivers
Amazon has implemented a smart video camera system that will measure the efficiency of delivery drivers in their jobs. The first reports about this initiative appeared in February this year. The innovation is designed to analyze several aspects of employees' work and form a "safety rating". Video system solutions will impact salaries and career progression.

Four Netradyne cameras will be installed in the company's vehicles to track driver activity. They will be able to monitor compliance with traffic rules, as well as behavioral factors, facial expressions and gestures. So, in case of violations, the system will notify the driver with a sound signal. This can happen, for example, if an employee yawns, looks at a smartphone, engages in "unwanted conversations", or shows other signs of a "decrease in concentration."

Any such violation of the rules will be punished by a decrease in the driver's safety rating with the addition of a penalty point. Serious violations such as passing a red light will result in an additional 10 penalty points. At the end of the week, the system generates assessment sheets for all employees and sends them to the management. Ultimately, an employee with a positive rating will be able to qualify for bonuses, while couriers with a low score may be penalized up to and including firing.

It should be noted that not everyone likes this innovation. Some drivers have resigned of their own accord, expressing the opinion that the video system is unduly intruding on privacy. The remaining employees point to inaccuracies in the functioning of the tracking mechanism. For example, cameras can detect vibration from driving on a section of a bad road for a phone signal. In addition, Amazon has tightened the requirements for the safety rating: if previously the average score was at around 550, now it has been increased to 700. In addition, the company simultaneously fines for traffic violations and sets the minimum delivery rate per day, which if the driver does not meet it, he faces dismissal ... Such rules lead to the fact that employees do not have time for a short rest or even a trip to the toilet.
